Tech Industry & Sustainability: Let’s take a look at 5 key players in the Australian tech industry. How do they contribute to sustainability?

Integrated Research wins the top performer

Australia’s technology industry scores higher in sustainability than the Sustainable Platform database (of all listed companies across all industries). The leader in the group is Integrated Research, an Australian software-based elastic connectivity provider with a score of 91.

The sector's largest contribution to sustainability is to the basic needs of communication, knowledge, housing and transport.

The sector's main controversial exposure comes from its exposure to fossil fuels, mainly oil. Other controversial industries flagged in the index analysis were gambling and defense contracting.

Notably three of the the top 5 scorers on the index are health companies:

• Pro Medicus Limited

• ResApp Health Limited

• Alcidion Group Limited.

All of them score highly on SDG Goal 3: Good health and well-being but do not contribute as much across the other goals, except for ResApp Health Ltd which also contributes significantly to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure.

Integrated Research Limited, a software and services company, is the highest sustainable contributing company in the index. Interestingly this was not due to a standout contribution in anyone particular area, but across all goals. Its strongest contribution is to goals 8, 9 and 16.

Megaport contributes the most to SDG goal 5: Gender Equality than the other top 5 tech companies.
