Sustainability Scorecards

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Scorecard series aims to highlight how various sectors, industries and companies are contributing to the 17 United Nations SDGs – both locally and internationally.

Using independently assessed SDG data, we provide regular updates on how companies or sectors are progressing with building a sustainable world and how key SDGs are being met locally and abroad.

The SDG Scores are calculated based on data provided by our data partner, Sustainable Platform. It is assessed based on the proportion of revenue (plus research & development spent) of a listed company that contributes to, or detracts from, one or more of the SDGs.

The SDG Scores

Sustainable Platform analyses over 22,000+ companies around the world for factors contributing to or detracting from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We use one of their sustainability metrics called ‘net SDG score’ to define benchmarking against the SDG contribution. We have chosen this approach as it provides a more balanced view of a company’s sustainability profile - encompassing economic, social and environmental factors.

The SDG score is based on Sustainable Platform’s net SDG score, that takes into account:

  1. Positive contribution to the SDGs

  2. Exposure to controversial industries

  3. Environmental impact, and

  4. Involvement in activities deemed detrimental to society or their employees.
